Our location - with access to three interstate highways and an international airport - makes Boone County a desirable place to be. We’re also well-positioned to attract the experiences, businesses, and recreation opportunities that our residents want. However, Boone County is focused on purposeful growth that’s based on thoughtful and strategic planning. This applies to our transportation system, too, and is why we are updating our Transportation Plan. We’re looking at how we can make travel easier and safer for you and your family while preserving our county’s cherished heritage and allowing it to be a place where our children will want to raise our grandchildren. The Transportation Plan update will explore ways to improve local travel safety and traffic flow, reduce congestion, and strengthen connections between local destinations.

Our current Transportation Plan was created in 2017. Since then, we've made great progress. Many of the plan's recommended improvements are now complete, in progress or planned in the near future. Here are just a few:

  • Interchange improvements at Mt. Zion and Richwood Road exits (complete)
  • New Graves Road interchange (complete)
  • Widening along Camp Ernst Road from Pleasant Valley Road to Hathaway Road (in progress)
  • New multi-use paths to connect communities along Pleasant Valley and North Bend roads (complete)
  • Improvements to Mt. Zion Road and Pleasant Valley (complete)
  • Intersection improvements at KY 237 and Conrad Lane (complete)
