Matthew Webster, County Administrator, presents the FY26 budget to the Fiscal Court.

Every year, the Boone County Fiscal Court prepares a budget that strives to wisely invest tax dollars and grant funds back into our community. Anticipated expenses and revenue are carefully budgeted, so residents are not burdened with additional taxes.

This year, Judge/Executive Gary W. Moore charged County administration to develop a budget that would allow the Fiscal Court to pass along significant relief to residents. Continually lowering taxes and the tax burden on residents is a shared priority across the Fiscal Court - for the Judge/Executive and all three commissioners.

Here's how that would happen:

  • County leadership forecasted conservative revenue (which includes ad valorem tax/property tax, payroll and business taxes and other corporate taxes).

  • County departments conservatively forecasted expenses for the new fiscal year (July 1-June 30).

  • Based on those forecasts, all four members of the Fiscal Court will be in a position to discuss lowering tax rates this fall.

  • The property tax rate affected would only be for the Boone County Fiscal Court and would not impact other taxing agencies (such as the Library, School District, incorporated cities or fire districts).

  • Typically, tax rates are set in August.

The Fiscal Court is committed to keeping residents informed and up-to-date. Learn more about the budget process and share any questions, comments or suggestions you have.
