About the Project:

Work along Maher Road will take place in three phases:

Phase 1: Road Stabilization

This phase will address three areas along the road where asphalt has cracked and begun to dip toward the shoulder. Work will primarily take place in the right of way (in the area next to the road), but will require a lane closure near work sites. Work is expected to start mid-September and finish in mid-October.

UPDATE: Stabilization work is complete.

Phase 2: Road Repair

Once stabilization work is complete, crews will repair and replace the damaged layers of asphalt. Boone County Public Works crews will follow contractor crews as they complete stabilization. During this time, traffic will be down to one lane near the areas where crews are working. Road repair will finish in mid-late October.

UPDATE: Initially planned road repair work is complete. Boone County crews are taking advantage of the time before contractors resurface Maher to repair additional damaged areas. They are removing several inches of worn asphalt and replacing it with concrete. This will help improve safety and longevity of the road. Public Works crews finished the east bound lane and will move to the west bound lane this week.

Phase 3: Resurfacing

Maher Road (from US 25 to the Kenton County line) will be resurfaced. Damaged asphalt will be scraped off the road and then replaced with fresh asphalt. Crews will work on one side of the road at a time, which will create lane closures. Work is expected to begin late October-early November and will finish 1-2 weeks after start date, depending on weather and contractor availabilty.

UPDATE: Resurfacing work might start as early as the week of Nov. 3, pending weather and contractor schedule.
